basiXonline.org
is a site dedicated to the
infallibility and authority of the God's general
revelation to us through the natural world He created
and controls, and His special revelation and
instructions as found in the sixty-six books and letters
of the scriptures.
As such,
the contributors to
basiXonline.org
agree that the journey to authentic discipleship begins
with a complete reading of the Bible and, further, that
spiritual maturity cannot be attained without committed
effort to read and study the Word of God.
Though we
affirm that "all scripture is God breathed", we rely on
God's Word within the context of the entire inerrant
message from Genesis through Revelation rather than
disputing the integrity of individual words or passages
translated between languages. One of our
foundational beliefs is that the version of the Bible
being read is a distant second to the act of actually
reading the Bible.
While, as
followers of The Way, we can learn and perhaps
experience transformation through the study of and
meditation on specific passages and books, knowing God
comes from reading the entirety of the Bible.
Three passages are particularly clear on this point:
"But you are a
chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to
God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of
darkness into his wonderful light."
1Peter 2:9 NIV
Without a
complete reading of the Bible, we assert that the terms
chosen people, royal priesthood, holy
nation and a people belonging to God will not
be as transformational in your understanding of God's
plan for your life if you have not read the Old
Testament.
"'Do
not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill
them.'"
- Jesus - Matthew 5:17 NIV
Without a
complete reading of the Bible, we assert that it is
impossible to comprehend the necessity of faith in Jesus
Christ and the grace of God. If you have not read
and studied "the Law and the Prophets" how can you fully
understand the miracle of their fulfillment?
"All
Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so
that the Man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every
good work."
2Timothy
3:16-17 NIV
Note that
the sentence above identifies "All Scripture", not "Some
Scripture" or "Scripture we are comfortable with".
Clearly Paul is equating fully equipped as having read
the scripture in it's entirety.
In light
of the paramount importance to your discipleship and
growth to spiritual maturity, this area if the site is
dedicated solely to available online Bibles, online
Bible readings and Bible reading calendars which we hope
will encourage and simplify your journey through the
Bible. |
